In the morning, in the afternoon or in the evening, when we work or have a rest, in the office, on a visit or at home, a cup of our favorite drink accompanies us everywhere.

Even on the road, in transport, in the car, many people do not deny themselves the pleasure of making a couple of sips of tea or coffee - the heat cups and thermoses with drinkers are very popular lately. In general, many people are accustomed to drink coffee on the run, while talking on a mobile phone.

Not for nothing on almost every corner, and especially near office centers, there are so many points offering to quickly take coffee with you. Demand creates supply. The habit of drinking coffee or tea in the morning, when we first woke up, on arrival at work, at lunch, before going home, before going to bed - this is not so much a need, as a tradition (except for hot or very cold days, when we are thirsty or need to warm up ).

In ancient times, both tea and coffee were medicinal or even ritual drinks. They were drunk in special cases, for specific purposes, at a strictly defined time, in limited quantities. And today, these 2 drinks are like batteries for us, we drink them without thinking, believing that without them our energy level can drop dramatically, we will lose our ability to work, we will become sluggish and passive.

Since the discovery of tea leaves and coffee berries, centuries have passed, and supporters of tea and coffee are still arguing, discussing the benefits and harms of these fragrant drinks.

So, what does most of us expect in the first place from a cup of flavored drink?

Obviously, this is a caffeine dose injection. Caffeine in certain doses helps to fight drowsiness, relieves fatigue, stimulates the brain, invigorates and increases mental and physical activity.

The chemical name of caffeine is 1,3,7 - trimethylxanthine. Pure caffeine is a bitter white powder that dissolves well in water and easily enters the bloodstream. Its effect is manifested within 10 minutes after drinking. Peak concentration - in 30-60 minutes after use.

Where is more caffeine - in coffee or tea?

    Caffeine in coffee

It is believed that there is more caffeine in coffee than in tea. But which coffee and which tea?

The caffeine content in coffee can vary in a very wide range and depends on many factors, such as the quality of the coffee and the way it is made.

For example, in coffee, brewed in the Turk, caffeine is less than in the beverage prepared in the coffee machine. Milk neutralizes caffeine, so coffee drinks with milk have less caffeine than espresso. The spilling time in the coffee machine also affects the caffeine content, so the lungo drink (the so-called long espresso) - more caffeine than espresso with a smaller volume. In highland coffee, the caffeine content is higher.

The size of the grinding also affects the content of this invigorating substance in the resulting drink. As you can see, it is only possible to give an exact figure if we are talking about a specific type of coffee and a specific prepared beverage. And if we take into account the factor of caffeine digestibility by our body - for example, the absorption of caffeine when the stomach is full is slower, then it becomes impossible to appeal with clear numbers at all - too many different factors affecting the result.

    Caffeine in tea

Tea caffeine is called tannin. In fact, it is the same caffeine, but the effect of a cup of tea is significantly different from the effect of coffee.

The fact is that tea also contains a special amino acid - theanine, which promotes the transmission of impulses between the neurons of the brain. Psycho-stimulating effect of theanine is similar to caffeine, but at the same time contributes to a calm and focused state of the brain.

Theanine relieves tension, improves mood, increases physical and mental activity, while relieving stress and irritability. Plus, green tea contains a lot of vitamin C, the benefits of which are known to all. This combination of caffeine, theanine and vitamin C in tea allows you to get the effect of intellectual stimulation, physical activity, relaxation and vigor simultaneously.

In addition, the effect of tea caffeine is prolonged in time. The invigorating effect is softer, but more lasting.

People who drink three cups of good tea a day are 37% less likely to get depressed.

The caffeine content in tea, as in coffee, can also vary. Record holder is green tea. Then white tea, oolongs, and only then, contrary to popular belief, black tea. More caffeine in high-mountain teas, especially in tea undisclosed buds and upper leaves of the spring collection.

Also, the caffeine content in the finished drink depends on the time of infusion and water temperature.

    So let's summarize

Caffeine in coffee is not mitigated by the action of theanine and can cause unreasonable anxiety, depression, panic, nervousness, insomnia, headache, heart problems, and also addictive. Coffee contains a lot of cholesterol, and coffee lovers with sugar and cream suffer even more from elevated cholesterol. The habit of drinking coffee on the run gives an extra load on the heart. It is also worth knowing that coffee is a diuretic and dehydrates the body. Coffee lovers also often suffer from insomnia.

Tea caffeine, tannin, softens with the amino acid theanine and gives a softer, but lasting effect. Those who drink tea regularly show a calmer reaction to disturbing situations and do not suffer from insomnia. Tea strengthens the nervous system, has a beneficial effect on the heart and stomach, strengthens the walls of blood vessels, gives vigor to the body and clarity of the mind. In addition, green tea contains a lot of vitamin C and antioxidants. Scientists have proven that regular consumption of green tea can be a good prevention of cancer, and vitamin C contributes to overall health and immunity.

    Summary

What to drink - tea or coffee, to decide, of course, only you. It all depends on what effect you prefer - short-term explosive energy or quiet vigor during the day.

The truth is that in all things it is good to know when to stop, one cup of coffee will not cause dehydration or a panic attack, so we, the Chayelubs, in principle, have nothing against coffee.
