Chahai serves as an intermediate container between teapot and bowls. It is also called "Slivnik" or "Cup of Justice." The second, undoubtedly, is more romantic, and has justifications.
The Chinese say that everyone is equal before tea - that is, all tea party participants should receive the same tea.
If you pour tea directly from the teapot - whether it be a teapot or gaiwan - the tea continues to be brewed, the first guest gets the lightest drink, while the last is the strongest. Not fair. Chahai equalizes the drink to taste and aroma, as a result all guests get fairly the same tea.
