The bowl is made of Dehua porcelain, known for its transparent white material. The art of carved porcelain originated in ancient China and reached its peak during the Tang and Song dynasties. The inside of the bowl is covered with a shiny glaze, while the outside remains matte.
The bowl is lightweight, with thin walls that are translucent in the light. The rim of the bowl is slightly bent to avoid burning when used. The product is decorated with a carved image of one of the Four Great Beauties of China, symbolizing not only external beauty but also feminine wisdom and influence in Chinese history.
The bowl depicts a scene from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where Diao Chan worships the moon, calling on the heavenly powers for support. However, the girl is better known for a legend: one day, when she went out to admire the full moon, her beauty was so dazzling that the moon hid behind the clouds, unable to withstand the radiance. This is how the Chinese idiom "Eclipsing the Moon" appeared.
