The porcelain bowl comes from Dehua and is made of transparent white porcelain. The art of carved porcelain in China has been known since ancient times and reached its peak of excellence during the Tang and Song dynasties. The inside of the bowl is covered with a glossy glaze, while the outer surface remains matte.
The bowl is lightweight, with thin walls that are translucent in the light. The rim is bent to protect fingers from burns. The bowl is decorated with a carved image of one of the Four Great Beauties of China - symbols of external beauty, wisdom and influence on history.
According to legend, Xi Shi, leaning over a pond, amazed the fish with her beauty so much that they forgot how to swim and began to drown, enchanted by her reflection.
